During the early May Bank Holiday weekend five scouts represented 99th Reading in the annual District Camping Competition which this year took place at the Youlbury Scout Activity Centre near Oxford.
The camping skills shown by all the troops in the competition was of a very high standard.
After much deliberation by the judges the 99th Reading team were judged to have demonstrated the best overall camping skills during the weekend and for the team to be winners of the 2013 competition.

As is traditional, the 99th Reading Scout Group lead the Remembrance Day Mass at Our Lady of Peace & Bl Dominic Barberi Church on 11 November.
There was a good turnout from all the Sections, and we are very grateful to the young people who came along and also to their parents for getting them there.

We were also joined by a contingent from the District Explorer Scouts Unit.

Pride is one of the seven deadly sins, but in this case we were all justifiably proud of the contribution made by the young …

The 99th’s entered a team in the District Camping Challenge and one of the activities during the weekend was the ‘Loddon Games’ (based very loosely on the Olympics !!!)
Our team, representing Nigeria (an obvious link with OLOP’s connections with Nigeria), took the overall ‘Bronze Medal’. Well done to all involved.

As has now become a tradition, the Scout Group provided and decorated the Christmas Tree for Our Lady of Peace & Bl Dominic Barberi Parish, and also set up the Crib.
The decorations for the tree were hand-made by the Cubs for Christmas 2010, and include snowmen dressed in Cub uniform, badges, the Scout motto, as well as more traditional decorations such as stars and snowflakes. They are now stored for next year.
The Crib is also now stored away for next year – it was actually made for us a few …
